CLIMACTS! BOLD WITH BILLY PORTER HEADLINE THE WILBUR THEATRE ON MAY 19Th

Boston, MA – Climacts! Bold with Billy Porter are set to perform The Wilbur Theatre on Monday, May 19th 2014 at 6:00 PM.

The Theater Offensive‘s unique performance party fundraiser reaches a new peak with  climACTS! BOLD, marking the company’s 25 years OUT on the edge. The event celebrates queer sexual liberation to support The Theater Offensive’s arts programs by, for and about the LGBT community in Boston neighborhoods.  ClimACTS! BOLD will feature out-of-the-box performances, a legendary Fantasy Auction and an irreverent party to celebrate The Theater Offensive’s contributions to the arts and LGBT community both locally and nationally.

A performance by 2013 Tony Award winner Billy Porter, star of the Broadway hit Kinky Boots headlines the event, which also features burlesque artist La Chica Boom and drag artist and opera singer Shequida. In honor of the launch of TTO’s Joan Parker Fierce Fund for True Colors, the Bang Group, which is led by Parker’s son David Parker, will be performing its signature piece, “Slapstuck.”

“This year’s climACTS! is a party truly worthy of celebrating The Theater Offensive’s 25 years,” said Founder and Artistic Director Abe Rybeck. “We’re thrilled to bring our community together for a night of incredible performances and to celebrate the legacy of Joan Parker, the best friend any little queer theater ever had.  This is not your typical fundraiser or gala—no speeches, no rubber chicken dinners. Just outrageous fun that cuts to the core of our mission, and a memorable night for those who support our vital, award-winning art and community activism.”

climACTS! is unlike any other fundraiser. Hundreds of Boston’s LGBT and arts communities’ most influential and fun-loving contributors will get together for delicious food, stunning celebrity performances, exuberant dance floor action and the Fantasy Auction. Items included a luxurious villa stay in Costa Rica, VIP tickets to the Ellen Show, and the infamous Fluffer package experience in Prague.

The Theater Offensive: OUT in Your Neighborhood (OUT’hood) works in Roxbury, Dorchester, Jamaica Plain and the South End to create original, groundbreaking works by, for and about the LGBT community. TTO also runs True Colors: OUT Youth Theater, a program for LGBT youth and their straight allies ages 14-29.

“Over the past 25 years, we’ve made incredible inroads in LGBT advocacy and activism through arts and performance, particularly by artists of color,” said TTO Managing Director Adrian Budhu. “Our leadership in responding to LGBT youth bullying, suicide and homelessness has been well-received, but we have a lot of work to do for the LGBT communities in our own backyards. The funds climACTS! BOLD will raise for OUT’hood and True Colors are critical to the success of these important programs.”

During the event, Rybeck will present the Out on the Edge Award to a groundbreaking artist/activist. Past recipients of this award have included comedian Alec Mapa, playwright Sharon Bridgforth, author Kate Bornstein, actor Alan Cumming, playwright Paula Vogel, and Boston’s own Gunner Scott of the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition.

Sponsorship opportunities for individuals and businesses begin at $500. Contact [email protected] for more information.
