The Wilbur History
The Wilbur Theatre, opened in 1914 by architect Clarence H. Blackall, was built in the American Colonial style with a portico salvaged from an 1830s Beacon Hill townhouse. Its compact design keeps every seat close to the stage, a necessity before sound amplification existed.
