Stand-Up to Hunger is a comedy show at The Wilbur Theater benefitting The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB), the largest hunger-relief organization in New England. Hosted by Matty in the Morning, the show features some of Matty’s favorite comedians who are coming together to support GBFB’s mission to end hunger across Eastern Massachusetts. One in ten people across Eastern Massachusetts is food insecure and every $1 raised through Stand-Up to Huncger ticket proceeds will allow GBFB to provide three healthy meals to our neighbors in need.
“I have long-standing ties with the Boston comedy scene and I am excited to bring some of my favorite ones together for a night of great comedy and help raise money for The Greater Boston Food Bank.” Matt Siegel
“In Eastern Massachusetts, one in 10 people don’t know where their next meal is coming from and one in eight is a child,” said Catherine D’Amato, president and CEO of The Greater Boston Food Bank. “We are very excited and so grateful to Matty Siegel and KISS108, The Wilbur Theater and these four gifted comedians who are so generously sharing their talent, time and resources to make a real difference in the lives of those we serve and to help end hunger here.”
DOM IRRERA
Nominated six times for an American Comedy Award, Dom Irrera’s stand-up material was honed in a multi-generational Italian household in South Philadelphia. His first big break was his performance on Rodney Dangerfield’s “Nothing Goes Right” comedy specials for HBO. In 1989 Irrera’s own HBO “One Night Stand” earned him his first CableACE award for Best Stand-Up Comedy Special. In ’95 he won a second CableACE for the Showtime stand-up series he hosted, “Full Frontal Comedy”. That same year he received a second CableACE nomination in the writing category for his work on Comedy Central’s animated series, “Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist”. He has performed on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”, “The Late Show with David Letterman”, “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”, “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson”, “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”, “The View”, and has made several appearances on “Oprah”. Recent credits include the Joy Behar show on HLN, hosting “Half Time” on the NFL network and starring in his own series for Direct TV “The Supreme Court of Comedy”.
GARY GULMAN
Gary Gulman is a stand-up comedian who lives in NYC and is one of only a handful of comedians to perform on every single late-night comedy program. “Gary will be the next giant ex-Bostonian comic to break huge, CK, Burr, Gulman: You heard it here first” raved the Village Voice. Gary has 4 one-hour comedy specials featured on Showtime, Comedy Central and Netflix. His comedy album No Can Defend debuted at #18 on iTunes and his one-hour comedy special, “Gary Gulman: In This Economy?” was recognized as one of the 5 best comedy specials currently airing on Netflix. His new special “It’s About Time” is now streaming on Netflix.
ROBERT KELLY
Robert Kelly’s comedy is deeply rooted in his own life and relationships which makes it honest, abrasively funny, yet refreshingly vulnerable. He has been winning over audiences for years touring clubs, colleges and theaters, including repeat performances at Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival. His one hour special Robert Kelly: Live at the Village Underground debuted on Comedy Central and is now available on Netflix. Besides being a fixture on Comedy Central, Robert plays Bam Bam in Denis Leary’s FX show Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. He can also be seen as Louie CK’s brother Robbie on the hit series Louie. Robert currently hosts the top-rated podcast You Know What Dude? that can be found on iTunes. Robert is also the co-founder of the RiotCast podcasting Network.
CHRISTINE HURLEY
Christine’s new career in comedy was unconventional to say the least! Her first time on a stage was at the Laugh Factory in New York. It was an open audition for Nick-At-Nite’s “Search for America’s Funniest Mom” contest. Out of thousands of contestants she was selected as a finalist for the television show! Not a bad way to start a new career! Christine Hurley has earned the title “Queen of Boston Comedy! “She performs regularly with the “King” Steve Sweeney, the “Godfather” Don Gavin and many other legendary Boston comics! Christine was honored to be selected to perform at the Boston Garden for the 21st annual “Comics Come Home.” Hosted every year by “Rescue Me’s” Denis Leary, “Comics Come Home” raises money for the Cam Neely Cancer Foundation. The 2015 lineup included Jimmy Fallon, Lenny Clarke, Ray Romano, Steven Wright and Louis CK! Even with all this star power in front of 15,000 people, Christine Hurley “stole the show!”
